Bible Study Course: Lesson 2 The Word of God: The Foundation of Knowledge
Introduction
"The heart of the prudent gets knowledge, and the ear of the wise
seeks knowledge" (Proverbs 18:15).
Some 2,500 years ago the Hebrew prophet Daniel clearly foresaw an unprecedented
knowledge explosion. "Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase,"
he wrote (Daniel 12:4). How astonishingly true of our world!
We live in a dynamic information age largely driven by scientific communications
and the digital revolution. The demand to be informed is relentless. Popular
magazines routinely carry articles on how to cope with this constant barrage
of information.
But what is sadly lacking is the basic knowledge so essential to humanity's
overall well-being. In an unparalleled period of information overload, the world
is desperately troubled because of its fundamental lack of basic understanding
and common sense.
Well over 2,000 years ago God warned, "My people are destroyed for lack
of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6).
"We are drowning in information, but starved for knowledge," observes
trend-spotter John Naisbitt. What a paradox: The more information we acquire
the less essential knowledge we seem to absorb—often with dire long-term consequences.
God's warning through Hosea certainly rings true!
