Bible Personalities: Abraham
God supremely tested Abraham. God put Abraham’s trust in Him on the line. As Christians, can we walk in Abraham’s steps?
As God commanded, Abraham prepared for a sacrifice. He bound his son Isaac, and raised his knife to slay him. The Angel of the Lord stopped Abraham, saying, “Do not touch your son Isaac, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not held back your son, your only son from Me” (Genesis 22:12).
God called Abraham “My friend” because of the bond of closeness (Isaiah 41:8). When God first called him, he immediately left his home. He had no idea where God was leading him. By faith he dwelled (in tents) in a strange country. Then he offered up his only begotten son. God gave that son to Abraham and Sarah miraculously. They had well passed their child-bearing time. They acted with obedience and faith.
Just as with Abraham, God wants us to learn to depend on Him forever. He gives guidance, direction and protection to His friends. He calls Abraham the father of the faithful. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6).
