Bible Personalities: Isaiah
If you could only have one of the Bible books, which would you choose?
The New Testament writers quoted Isaiah more than any other prophet. Sometimes it is referred to as “the gospel of Isaiah”. This book gloriously describes aspects of the coming Messiah, Branch, Stone, Light, the virgin birth, Child, Crucifixion, King, and “the government will be upon His shoulders”.
At a time when the northern 10 tribes of Israel had been taken captive by treacherous Assyria, Judah then faced the same threat. God used Isaiah’s faith to bolster Judah’s king Hezekiah. As Hezekiah humbled himself and looked to God, Isaiah delivered God’s edict to Assyria. “I will put My hook in your nose and My bit in your mouth and I will make you return by the way you came” (Isaiah 37:29). Who could have known God would send His angel in a night to wipe out 185,000 Assyrian soldiers!
Isaiah addressed Judah’s sins and attitude toward God. Isaiah foretells the destiny of Israel and the Gentiles. He outlines a future wonderful time of a restored Israel and Judah in Christ’s kingdom. Read more at:
